IMASUB an undersea adventure in Cuba

Every year, underwater photographers experience the sense of freedom with new challenging competition for the best shots. The International Underwater Photography Contest (IMASUB) takes place in "María La Gorda" International Diving Center due to its exceptional natural setting and the usual base of operations where nature lovers capture the beauty of the seabed and the vibrant coral reef of the Guanahacabibes Peninsula.

Since 1987, the Guanahacabibes National Park was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The overwhelming natural value of this location has been promoted for years in about fifty points suitable for contemplative and scientific diving. Two of these areas are Valle de Coral Negro, considered the largest one in Cuba, and Salón de María, also decorated with multicolored corals. The diversity of marine flora and fauna and its seabed also show the sharpest contrast due to the crystal waters that allow visibility up to 30 meters in depths.

Underwater photography is not just a hobby; it’s a captivating art form that requires skill, dedication, and patience to master. Photographers use their expertise to create stunning compositions that highlight the beauty of the underwater world. The reward is pictures which appear like postcards from another world by exploring the hidden wonders beneath the water’s surface.

IMASUB Contest encourages all nature lovers, whether professionals or not to be part of this event. The competition awards multiple winners each year in various categories, such as macro images, marine life behavior, coral reef portraits, and more. From stunning pink coral-scapes to different marine species, IMASUB enhances a new world of possibilities surrounded by beautiful movements of the waves, stunning marine life and coral formations. It opens up a new perspective for enthusiastic image professionals to performance different set of skills behind the lens.

The experience for followers of professional diving from different countries make this event transcends the traditional notion of a photographic competition to become a dynamic space for the production of images of the seabed. Above all, IMASUB is an opportunity to gather experts on this area to join a trip through their camera lenses.

Joining IMASUB can be a transformative experience for sea lovers, providing a unique connection to nature. It’s a chance to witness the special interactions between species and appreciate the delicate balance of underwater ecosystems. It is also an inspiration to protect marine habitants and support the conservation efforts to preserve the underwater species.
