The Castillo Hotel stands on a hill that can be seen from any point of the city with an excellent view of Baracoa city and its surroundings.
Its construction dates back to the years 1737 to 1742, then it was a Spanish fortress called “Castillo de Santa Bárbara”.
It was built in order to defend the city from attacks by corsairs and pirates.
